This solid, slab serif font family was inspired by the drawings of an Austrian architect called Paul Grueber. It has a character set with some quirky alternate characters as one of the features of an expressive design, which finds its roots in the early 20th Century. For a strong tone of voice in visual communication, Grueber is exactly what you need.
Grueber is one of our more extrovert designs. It was created by Lukas Paltram, now our Creative Director, when he arrived at Dalton Maag as an intern. He had spotted some unusual lettering on Paul Grueber’s architectural drawings of the gates of Castle Hochosterwitz in Austria. The drawings had hand-lettered titles, created using architect’s tools, and Lukas knew that it would make the start of an interesting typeface design.
